About your week in this tropical Caribbean Paradise:
Our caretakers, Mari and Armando, should be able to assist you and answer any questions once you are down there. However, there are a few things you may need to know before your arrival.
You will fly into San Pedro airport on Ambergris Caye from Belize City. Two commuter airlines serve this route, Tropic Air and Island Air. If you will let us know your arrival time, we will have Armando waiting in a red pickup to take your luggage. Since Casa Gonzo is a couple of miles from the town, we suggest renting golf carts during your stay. Ramon’s Rentals is at the airport, and you will need to make reservations (011-501-26-2790). You could then follow Armando to the house; however, if you would rather, there are also taxicabs at the airport.
Casa Gonzo has a 300 foot private pier with swimming area. All fishing, diving and snorkeling boats can pick you up there at our pier. The Victoria House Resort (phone # 2067) is just down the beach, and they will make reservations for these activities if you want to set up an account there, ask for Xavier.
In addition to total relaxation on the beach, either swaying in the hammock under the palms or sunning on the dock, you will find a myriad of enjoyable island and barrier reef activities including fishing and some of the best snorkeling and scuba diving in the world.
When you arrive Mari and Armando will be happy to do your grocery shopping to stock the house. You will just have to give them some indication of what you wish to have on hand. Mari will be happy to prepare meals for you while you are our guests. She will need some guidance with menu planning and which meals each day you would like to have at the house. Chicken and seafood are abundant entrees there, other choices are limited. You will also find excellent restaurants with a variety of good food on the island.
San Pedro Distributors will deliver cases of beer, cokes, etc. if you call when you arrive. Of course there are plenty of liquor stores fairly well stocked on the island; however, the duty free liquor shop in the Belize City airport is great, and right at the end of the customs line you go through when you arrive. Good wine is non-existent on Ambergris Caye. There is a wine merchant in Belize City who has a fabulous wine selection, and his wine list is in the desk drawer. His name is Richard Price, Premium Wines & Spirits, 011-501-23-4984. He can send an order over on the airline if you want to call and order it.
If you have any questions you may give me a call at 512-477-0036. Mari and Armando should be able to assist you with anything you need during your stay.
Enjoy!

About Casa Gonzo
Designed by international award-winning and Harvard educated architect
Dick Clark, this tropical paradise for singer-songwriter Jerry Jeff
Walker, "Mr. Bojangles," and his wife Susan reflects a truly symbiotic relationship between design and surroundings. Nestled among a stand of palm trees on a remote stretch of beach on Ambergris Caye, just off the Belize coral reef in the Caribbean, this simple yet elegant composition captures both the Mexican tradition in building and vocabulary of form, and the Walker’s desire for a getaway vacation home which opens up and becomes integral with its site.
Native mahogany was used exclusively both to form the exposed ceiling
and to construct finely crafted louvered doors and shutters which open
up the house completely to outside view and breezes. Mexican tile was
used throughout the home and out to the deck creating a seamless link
between indoors and out. This palette of materials both roots the design
regionally and provides a durable yet aesthetically pleasing composition
which responds to the Walker’s needs for outdoor living and the climatic conditions of the site.
